Throughout the five years there is a weekly academic half-day. Attendance at the half-day is mandatory for all residents. The PGY1 residents participate in the CORE curriculum (based upon the “Principles of Surgery”) with the surgical residents. The PGY2-PGY5 residents attend the Ob/Gyn department half-day. The half-day commences with a one-hour clinical pathological conference where a scheduled resident presents a topic of interest, usually revolving around an interesting case, including the case presentation, working diagnosis, investigations and management plan. The remainder of the afternoon is oriented towards review of topics pertinent to obstetrics and gynecology with varying speakers and formats. There is a two year rota of topics based upon the Royal College objectives which are rotated through, which allows each resident to experience two sessions per topic during their training.
Residents are asked to evaluate each session so that we can ensure excellence in the quality of the presentations.
