Residency Training Program: Gynecologic Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility

About the Program

McMaster University offers a two-year sub-specialty residency program in gynecologic reproductive endocrinology and infertility (GREI). This program is accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. The residency position is funded by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. One resident is awarded a residency position every year.

The program offers exposure to a wide range of clinical experience in both core reproductive endocrinology and infertility, as well as related sub-specialties. The curriculum includes core rotations in andrology, research, pediatric endocrinology, adult endocrinology and gynecologic ultrasound. The resident will also learn advanced surgical techniques related to restoring and improving fertility.

McMaster’s Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology partners with the Ontario Network of Experts in Fertility (ONE Fertility) to provide the core clinical activity in reproductive endocrinology and infertility. ONE Fertility is a state of the art centre specializing in assisted reproductive technology, including in vitro fertilization (IVF). The IVF practice is busy, offering the resident substantial experience in both cycle management and operative techniques. The faculty at ONE Fertility currently consists of five physicians with certification in reproductive endocrinology and infertility. The program serves the Niagara region as well and the surrounding areas of Hamilton and Burlington, Ontario.

For information on electives in GREI, please visit visit our electives page.

Research

The program has a very strong research component with many opportunities for the resident to pursue a number of different research interests. The basic science component is strengthened by the renowned investigators in the scientific division of ONE Fertility, as well as in the division of reproductive biology.
