Events hosted by continuing education (CE) include the annual Departmental Research Day, Mohide Lectureship, Greg O’Connell Lectureship and Niagara Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (dinner and lecture).

Greg O’Connell Lectureship

The objectives of the lectureship are to:

  • Acknowledge the contributions of Dr. Greg O’Connell to the delivery of excellent clinical and psychosocial gynecologic cancer care to women in Southern Ontario.
  • Enhance the gynecologic cancer education of practicing community and academic physicians and obstetrics and gynecology residents.
  • Provide a forum to discuss gynecologic cancer issues for the lay public.

Departmental Research Day/Annual R.T. Weaver Scientific Day

The R.T. Weaver Scientific Day is attended by many obstetricians and gynecologists throughout the Hamilton-Wentworth Region, residents in the postgraduate medical education program and graduate research students. The Annual R.T. Weaver Scientific Day was established in 1974 by the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology to honour the first department chair in Hamilton, Dr. Weaver, whose leadership pre-dated and facilitated the establishment of the McMaster University Faculty of Health Sciences.

Mohide Lectureship

The Mohide Lectureship was established by Dr. Patrick Mohide in 2013 to recognize published work by members of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology and/or McMaster University. The goal is to share with other members of the department, and the university as a whole, key research performed by members of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology and McMaster University.

Dr. Patrick T. Mohide is a professor in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at McMaster University, and a member of the Active Staff of the Clinical Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Department of Radiology at Hamilton Health Sciences Corporation, in Hamilton, Ontario. He has served as chair of the department from 1999 to 2010.

Niagara Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (NSOG)

The Niagara Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists provides a forum for all obstetricians/gynecologists to get together for continuing education events and to enjoy some social time. The areas included are Niagara Falls, Welland, St. Catharines, Port Colborne, Grimsby, Fort Erie, Hamilton, Simcoe, Brantford, Guelph, Cambridge, Kitchener-Waterloo, Burlington and Oakville. This definition is not intended to exclude any participating or retired obstetrician or gynecologist. All are welcome! Suggestions for future topics and/or speakers would be welcomed by the organizers.

McMaster International Women’s and Children’s Health (IWCH) Network

The McMaster International Women’s and Children’s Health Network began its activities in 1998 and has been steadily growing. The IWCH Network is committed to improving the health of women and children in disadvantaged places of the world through leadership development, clinical outreach and research.

Enkin Lectureship – Celebrating Humanitarianism in Research

The Enkin Lectureship reflects a focus on the essential role of science in the service of humanity, and the restoration or introduction of humanitarian values in science (in general) and into clinical research (in particular). The lectureship is awarded to individuals from any country who are engaged in clinical research, challenging existing methods or accepted ideas in the content or conduct of clinical research and is capable of delivering a high-quality lecture that would appeal to an audience of broad interests.

The lectureship is a collaborative initiative of the Departments of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Clinical Epidemiology & Biostatistics. Additional sponsors are the Committee for Scientific Development (CSD) and the midwifery program.
