Objectives of a general gynecologic history and exam:

1. Identify the important components of a menstrual history.
2. Identify the pertinent questions to be asked in a sexual history and describe an approach to taking a sexual history.
3. Identify general questions that are associated with common gynecologic pathology.
4. Identify questions that would be more specifically targeted at the adolescent and perimenopausal/menopausal populations.
5. Identify the important components of a gynecologic examination.
6. Review the antenatal one and two forms.

Orientations:

At McMaster University Medical Centre (MUMC) and St. Joseph’s Hospital (SJH), interns from various other McMaster postgraduate programs and clinical clerks from McMaster Undergraduate Medical Education are trained in the basics of obstetrics and gynecology. When these learners start, at one of the two sites, they are given an orientation to the faculties, as well as an orientation package:.
