Dr. D’Souza and team recently were awarded $5 million over five years from Heart & Stroke, along with partners at Brain Canada and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research – Institute of Gender and Health.
The project titled The Canadian Network of Networks to Reduce Cardiovascular Mortality and Morbidity in Pregnancy (CaNCaM-Preg) is a winner of the Research Networks of Excellence in Women’s Heart and/or Brain Health. It was announced on September 23 that the Government of Canada and partners, Heart & Stroke and Brain Canada, are investing $10M to establish two new national research networks for women’s heart and brain health. One of which will be led by Dr. D’Souza (CaNCaM-Preg), where they will create a Canada-wide collaboration aimed at reducing deaths and serious illness from heart conditions during and after pregnancies.

Congratulations to Dr. Giulia Muraca and Dr. Rohan D’Souza who were a part of a multi-disciplinary team of McMaster researchers who received funding for a new study focused on addressing severe maternal morbidity in the Hamilton region and beyond. This grant is awarded from the Juravinski Research Institute (JRI) which Institute supports vital health research across Hamilton Health Sciences, McMaster University and St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton. The project is titled: The project, titled SERENE: Supportive, Evidence-informed, Responsive, and Equity-oriented prevention-and-care model to reduce the incidence and NEgative impacts of severe maternal morbidity.

A scientific lead from the McMaster Health Forum is among a group of international experts who contributed to a toolkit recently published by the World Health Organization (WHO) that provides guidance for care during and immediately after childbirth.
